Introducing Nexus Pen: The Future of AI-Powered Writing

Logan Holby   March 1, 2026   4 min read

We started with a simple question: why hasn't the pen evolved?

Smartphones transformed communication. Laptops revolutionized work. Yet the pen — one of humanity's oldest and most essential tools — has remained virtually unchanged for decades. We believed it was time for that to change.

The Problem We Set Out to Solve

Every day, millions of students sit in lectures frantically writing notes while trying to absorb new concepts. Professionals jot down ideas in meetings but forget context minutes later. Writers capture fleeting thoughts on paper with no way to expand on them instantly. The gap between writing something down and understanding it deeply has always required a second device — a phone, a laptop, an internet search.

We asked: what if the pen itself could bridge that gap?

Meet Nexus Pen

Nexus Pen is the world's first AI-powered pen with an integrated 1.3-inch OLED display. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth and is powered by Donna, our custom AI assistant built specifically for the writing experience.

Press the talk button, ask a question, and Donna responds — both audibly through the pen's built-in HD speaker and visually on the OLED screen. No need to put down your pen. No need to pick up your phone. The answer is literally in your hand.

What Makes It Different

  • OLED Display — Real-time AI responses, volume controls, and settings right on the pen
  • HD Audio — Crystal-clear 24kHz speaker output so Donna's voice sounds natural
  • Voice Commands — "Donna, take a note" or "Donna, define photosynthesis" — completely hands-free
  • BLE Connected — Seamless sync with the Nexus Pen mobile app on iOS and Android
  • Real Ink — It's still a pen. Premium erasable ink that writes beautifully on paper

Built by Students, for Everyone

Nexus Pen was founded in August 2025 by four high school students from Mundelein, Illinois. We're not a Silicon Valley startup with millions in funding — we're young builders who saw a problem and decided to solve it. Every circuit, every line of firmware, every pixel of the app was designed and built by our team.

We believe the best ideas come from people who are close to the problem. As students ourselves, we know exactly what it feels like to need an answer right now — and we built Nexus Pen to deliver exactly that.

What's Next

Nexus Pen is available for pre-order now at $119. We're shipping our first units soon, and we couldn't be more excited to put this technology in your hands — literally.

Welcome to the future of writing.
