Nexus Pen started in August 2025 from something simple: the pen hadn’t really changed in decades, even as everything around it did.

August 2025
Founded
Logan Holby started with one frustration: AI was everywhere except in your hand while you write and study. Nexus Pen was born.
October 2025
First prototype
The first working Nexus Pen prototype connected an ESP32 microcontroller, a custom color display, and a speaker into something that actually fit in your hand. It was rough, but it worked.
2025 to 2026
Firmware, app and backend built
Logan built out the firmware, the Donna AI companion app, and the cloud backend that powers it, giving the pen its voice: real-time speech synthesis delivered directly through the pen’s speaker.
June 2026
Pilot boards ordered
With the 4-layer circuit board design finalized, we placed the order for the first batch of pilot circuit boards.
August 2026
Pilot boards manufactured
The first pilot circuit boards arrived and were brought up on the bench. At the same time, the enclosure moved into its second design revision, now being refined with a professional product design engineer.
